on a scale of apathetic to james carville, i like to think of myself as politically inclined.
my last contract job was spent trying to increase youth participation in the provincial election.
i absolutely loved that job, but there was one element that made my work especially tricky: i was to remain completely non-partisan.
not to make any excuses, but i found it extremely difficult to motivate and inspire the youth population of British Columbia on the sole basis of voter participation = good. i had to refrain from speaking about issues including the environment, post-secondary education and the economy so that i would not be perceived as affiliated with one politcal party or leader.
that contract is over, and so is my non-partisan stance.
and it is with that statement i announce that i am going partisan. these past 2 days of non-blogging is mostly attributed to my new correspondance, meetings and volunteer work for a national candidate. although the federal election has yet to be called, i am certain it will be soon (think fall 2010). i am also certain that there is an incredible opportunity to elect a progressive and brilliant leader in the saanich-gulf islands.
so there you have it folks, my first official endorsement of a candidate since 2008.
go elizabeth, go!
but wait a minute, weren't you the one who once told me to vote liberal instead of ndp just to try to keep the conservatives out of office? i'm all for the green party, and elizabeth may is fantastic and everything she's doing is amazing, but you are going to have to work your ass off to get her into office! that being said, i will help if you need me :)
ReplyDeletelol, busted hey!?
ReplyDeletei think i told you to vote liberal in the last federal election when both keith martin (incumbant) and briony penn were running against conservative candidates in tight races in separate electoral districts! although i am not typically a fan of strategic voting, i felt at the time there was little other option due to our current first-past-the-post system.
In the last federal election, Elizabeth ran in her hometown in Nova Scotia. But now that she is living in Sidney, she’s all ours!
I think she has a chance of winning. Not a strong chance, but a chance for sure. And that’s all we need! And I would LOVE your help!
but i can't vote for her though, because i'm in vancouver? i still get confused about how everything works, you'll have to draw me a picture. is she running for prime minister, or premier? or is it primiere since she's a woman? that was just a joke :) when is the next election? i may not know much, but i DO vote, so at least that's something in my favor :)
